A Month Out - Feeling Great But Weird (Rant)
I don't know where people are getting that I'm easily eating 4 oz. As I mentioned in my post to Gwen below, I eat 3 - 4oz depending on the density, and then I am satisfied. I can only eat 3 oz of dense protein. If it's something like soup, yogurt, etc. then 4oz. This is completely in line with my nutritionist's guidelines for the first 6 months post-op.
I also don't feel that the 2 glasses of wine I had affected me at all differently. I am aware they are empty calories and I know about the risk of transfer addiction, but according to my nut, if I am getting in my protein and not going to be drinking crazy sugary drinks or carbonation, that is fine. There are 110 calories in a 5oz glass of white wine, with 1 carbs and 0 sugars. If I exercise and add a deficit, I can have a glass of wine. Not all the time, and I AM waiting for the 3 month mark, after this special event, but I can without being off-course at all, and this has all been discussed with my nutritionist.

I wanted to include, right from my post-surgery packet, this is part of the meal plan that was suggested for me in my first 7 days:
Breakfast: 1 scrambled egg or 4 oz of yogurt or cottage cheese
Mid-Morning: Protein supplement
Lunch: 3 oz of salmon, or tuna salad, chicken etc. (can add 1 oz of cooked veggies to that in month 2)
Mid-afternoon: Protein supplement
Dinner: 3 oz of salmon, or tuna salad, chicken etc. (can add 1 oz of cooked veggies to that in month 2)
*Can have one snack per day if needed, around 75 calories*
Eating this way puts me at around 600-900 calories a day - and that's for the first 7 days!

It is so interesting how post op plans from doctor to doctor varies! Crazy! I was on full liquids for 10 days, then thicker liquids for 10 days and finally soft foods for 2 weeks. I think the best advice is to follow what your doctor orders. I am lucky and very blessed too that I have had no bad reactions to any foods and no medical complications so far. Wish you continued success!!
I know, right?? I guess there's just many ways to skin a cat! LOL. Definitely following doctor's and nutritionist's orders ahead of all. Most people's plan sounds very similar to yours and I guess I'm a big self-doubter. ;)
Thank you and best of luck to you as well!!

My surgeon also had people on soft foods early (Day Three post op) because she -- along with a number of other surgeons -- found that their patients actually had less trouble with tolerating foods if they did not have an extended period of liquids and purées post-op. Most of her patients, including myself, had no trouble (or very little trouble) with anything. I had a baked buffalo chicken chunk at the end of the second week without any issues.
My surgeon did not ask us to count calories (just protein), but teh surgeons I work for and most of the plans I have read about here are signifcantly less than 900 calories in the first month (about 600-700). Yes, you will lose as long as there is a caloric deficit (how did you determine your metabolic rate, BTW? If you used just a chart or calculation, that is just a VERY rough estimate and doesn't take individual metabolism into account (which can be a significant adjustment)), but why not take advantage of the fact that right now your motivation is probably the highest it will ever be?

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
We are not supposed to count calories either, just protein. I do track the calories, because its part of my app and I was around 600 in my first 3 weeks. Now I am closer to 900 and I have tolerated solid foods so well.
Also, I had my metabolic rate tested at my endocrinologist's office. They have a machine I had to breathe into for like 5-10 minutes to give me that rate. I am full of motivation and have been taking full advantage of it! It's so great to WANT to take the long way walking, etc. This is a big reason why I posted here, because I am so determined and so anal about doing everything right, that I kind of just wanted reassurance.

I eat 3-4 oz per meal, depending on the density. And my snack is usually 1-2 oz. I weigh my food like 80% of the time. When I don't and then track or weigh it later, I find that I almost always overestimate the size of my portion - so I think I ate 4 oz, but it was actually 2. ;)

Pepcid may not be the right PPI for you. I would call your surgeon's office and ask them for a prescription for another type of PPI.
At one month post surgery, I was eating around 600 calories a day. Even now I try to eat between 800-900. IF you find that you're not losing weight, you might want to lower your calorie intake.
