Liquid Diet. What did you eat?
After a long wait, I'm finally heading in Monday morning for my VSG surgery. I'm excited to get on with the rest of my life, but I'm kind of concerned about the 2 weeks of liquid, and trying to find things to consume that are high in protein. I'm not a really picky eater, but thought I would toss it out to the community here for suggestions.
Thanks to everyone in advance!

Congrats on your surgery Monday!!!
I am on day 17 and have been on full liquids since day 4 (which where clear) and only one more to go!
We could have shakes of course (I would try to have at least one that had 30 grams of protein), also allowed yogurt, low fat cream soups strained, vegetable or tomato juice, no sugar added applesauce, baby food fruits, sugar free puddings.
Not easy to do after about a week, but so necessary.

Thank you!
I think I'm going to pick up some Premier Protein Shakes from Costco tomorrow so I have them ready for when I get home. I'll probably have to do some shopping as well for yogurt I think. The pre-surgery diet is almost over (thank god!).
Just bought a Vitamix as well under suggestion from my wife, so I'll probably try my hand at smoothies as well.
Is straining the soups just to make sure there are no chunks in it or is it to thin the soup out?
My instructions state that straining is so there are no chunks, you can thin them also if needed. I liked Progresso clam chowder and the chicken enchilada best.
I have a Ninja and make my own shakes most of the time, you will love your vitamix....you'll be able to make some great soups in that!!!

Mainly protein shakes. I'd also do french onion soup, strained, from Panera. YUM. And SF popsicles. But mostly protein shakes.

Syntrax Nectar Cappucino mixed in almond milk. Once I figured out that lactose was causing major stomach upset, this was the combo I stuck with for the remainder of liquids. Honestly, I know I might sound like a freak, but I LOVED the liquid phase. So easy and convenient, and it's not like I was ever hungry. I didn't even get sick of the flavor and I had it three times a day. Purees and solids were much more challenging to eat but liquids were easy. (Watching food commercials did stink, though.)
Congratulations on your surgery!
I'm only on day 4 post-surgery and have been drinking the Premier Protein shakes..mainly chocolate. I have also had some low sodium chicken broth and SF popsicles. It has been difficult trying to get my liquids in, as it takes a looong time just to drink one shake (about 1oz every ten minutes). I am also sipping on water in-between these selections.
It's interesting because each surgeon has their own guidelines. I am not allowed yogurt or cream soups (even strained) during my liquid phase, but can having them when I start my soft food stage on day 15.
Good luck with your surgery on Monday! Looking forward to sharing this weightless journey.
