Why is everyone around me so negative?

I get the same responses about "failing again" from my parents as you get from your mom.  I did however make it very clear to my parents that I want their input but they needed to respect my decision whatever it may be.  I'm right now where you are too.  I need a revision but insurance likely won't cover it.  I can't pay $18k so that won't work.  I'll follow this thread and see how it goes.  Good luck to you!!!!

You are very wise to get your band removed they are causing terrible damage to many people and they have a 60% failure rate no matter how well you follow the rules so get it out now. Like someone else said what others think is their problem not yours, they most likely know nothing about WLS so their opinions are worthless! Just do what you have to do to get that band out before it does serious permanent damage to you and then worry about the sleeve or try running it by insurance and hope they cover it! The sleeve is a really good surgery for many people!

I had my endoscopy on Friday and found  that my band had partially slipped and my pouch is dilated and I have esophagitis.  I am definitely glad I have made the decision to get it removed because I am scared about the possible additional damage it could cause if I left it in.  Thanks for the support!

Revision on 07/07/15

I so understand, I just had a revision from the band last week and insurance only paid for the removal of the band. So I am now seriously in debt and due to all the negativity (oh that's a lot of money to pay what if you don't lose or are serious about it ect ect.....)

Well, I did it anyway (had to have the band removed and didn't want two surgeries) and are so glad that I did it even though it has been a rough week and a half.

Oh and one of those negative people called me today to remind me that it is national ice cream day saying it is soft you can have that right?? Oh, you can't change people just try to please yourself after all you are the one that has to do it!

I would love to hear how you are doing.  Please keep in touch as it sounds like we are in the same boat.  I hope this week goes better for you.  Thank you for the support.

HI!

The bottom line is you have to do what is right for you despite family, friends, or anyone else telling you different.  It really does not matter what they say as they are not the ones living with the issues....you are!  If they are negative now, they will be afterwards, so just prepare yourself not to let their words affect your actions to be healthy.

It is a complete mind and lifestyle change from the band.  I have many friends who have the band and only one has been successful and has maintained her weightloss.  The sleeve is permanent, although you can still stretch it out and gain all the weight back with it, so it's really up to you as to how serious you are about making the lifestyle changes permanent.  You can do anything you set your mind to, and hopefully your hubby will be supportive and with you every step of the way.

Good luck and just keep your eyes focused on your future.  As for cost, I had my surgery done in Mexico because I had to pay out of pocket.  I saved thousands of dollars for the same procedure.  I also researched and found the only trauma trained, Joint Commission accredited surgeon doing this surgery.   He is amazing and well worth the savings.  Let me know if you would like more information .
