So I got a call from the HR department about my request for short term disability

HR:  Hi this is Kelli and I'm your case representative.

Me:  Hi Kelli

HR:  I have a few questions for you.

Me:  Shoot.

HR:  Do you mind if I ask what kind of surgery you're having?

Me:  Don't mind at all... I did fill that section out on the form.  I'm having bariatric surgery.

HR:  Ok, great.  Was this a pre existing condition?

Me:   ........ Well.... it's not like I just woke up one morning and said "OH MY GOD!!  I'M FAT!"  So I guess I'll answer yes to that? (Actually spoken ... the guy in the cube in front of me burst out laughing!)

HR:  That's ok, I can check your surgeon's report.

Me:  *crickets*

I think I would rather have another heart cath than deal with this.

Just had the FMLA paperwork filled out today, it states "medically necessary surgery" under procedure.  HR DOES NOT need to know what kind of surgery your having however the FMLA form must states "medically necessary surgery"  Its up to you if you wish to share your surgery details but is NOT mandatory.

When they see the approval from the insurance company the reason is listed on there and will also be in the surgeons report. It's fine :)
