the only way to beat the cravings is to go cold turkey , no refined sweets at all , it will take a few weeks to get detoxed

 therapy is a big help if you can do it

Yep. You need to take a good look at why you are doing this,  seek professional help if necessary. This is not meant to be mean,  but honest. You just had a major surgery to physically alter your organs for a better life! You have a second chance! Grab it by the horns and show it who's boss!

I Know I fall victim to sweets,  so I don't buy them. I keep Greek yogurt,  diet flavored drinks, and protein powder in my place for when I am craving something sweet. Or I drink and drink water,  have an iced coffee since its on my plan.

Time to quit and white knuckle through the few days of carb detox to get yourself in the game!

I just wanted to say, I'm proud of you for coming on here and doing this - laying it all out there. I'm sure it wasn't easy to do!
