Did everyone start a low carb regiment before surgery and if so how many days before surgery?

I chose to do a low carb regiment as soon as I decided to have the surgery.  My program had me start "eating as if I had a sleeve" as soon as I started the program.  This meant three meals a day, with 3 to 4 ounces of dense protein and all the veggies I wanted, and 1/2 cup of starch per meal. Plus eat slowly, small bites, and no liquids with meals.   I chose not to eat the starch because I knew that carbs caused cravings for me.  So I effectively went low carb 3 months before surgery.

You might try going low carb for a few days to a week and see if it helps reduce your cravings.  If it does, then its a powerful tool to help you succeed.  If not then I don't think there is much benefit to low carbing it.

best wishes,

Carol

I started a required liquid diet 10 day before my surgery. It was four shakes a day & one meal that consisted of one protein, one veggie and one starch.

Tomorrow starts my two week liquid diet in prep for sleeve on 8/4. What I was told is it is to help shrink my liver so surgery is easier. I suppose it will also be helpful in getting in the habit of liquids only, lots of protein and very low carbs post surgery.
