Should I revise my Lap Band to a VSG?

I get it.  My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and I'm 36 so I'm running out of time.  I'm much rather go through pregnancy smaller and healthier . . . I had complications last time that I'd really rather not repeat.

So I just wanted to understand . . . you are scheduled for the band removal but then you have to wait another six months to get the sleeve?  Is that right?  Did your doc explain why he thinks you should do it that way?  Does he know you want to have another baby?  I'm only asking b/c I'm thinking of the timeline . . . 6 months for the sleeve, then they SAY you should weight 12-18 months before getting pregnant. . . seems like such a long time!  But I do know there are ALOT of people on the pregnancy board who have gotten pregnant at 6-8 months post op . . . what are your plans?

Thanks so much for sharing . . .it's nice to get the perspective of others! :)

yes I'm glad to share and hear from others too! Dr said that since my band has been in a while it will be more complicated to remove but i think its just the policy of the office i go to. she said the risk of complications is much less with two procedures than with just one. they want it to heal entirely and that's why they wait the 6 months. i have heard of people having babies after about 6 months. i will probably wait longer than that anyway. i don't want them to close in age i already have 5 kids, two step kids, one adopted and then i have had 2. if i have two that are very young will be to much work! lol However since i am getting older i know i wont have to long. also when i was smaller i got pregnant right away and heavier it took a year and a half so ill have to be careful to decide when to try... lots to consider but i think earliest would be about 18 months from now anyway so should be OK. still waiting for surgery to be scheduled to take lap band out and getting frustrated lol. Dr said would schedule it July 10th and i haven't heard anything yet.

you need to get the band out anyway and if your surgeon will do the sleeve at the same time there is little extra risk , if the band worked for you the sleeve will only work better

Good point and one surgery is better than two! :)

The band is a horrid evil torture device get it out before it really does serious damage. The sleeve is so much better than the band ever is or ever could be.

LOL Well, thanks for your honesty.  And I totally feel that way sometimes, too.  :)

I am 5 weeks out from my revision from band to sleeve and couldn't be happier.  I had my band removed in April and my sleeve on 6/10.  Since the start of my pre op diet I have lost 35.6 pounds.   I was told by both my surgeon and others that my loss would be slower because I had already had one WLS.  It is going a bit slower, but I am very happy I did this!

I also had the lap band 2010...Never really lost what I wanted then like you had pain found out it slipped. went to my surgeon. I revised at the same time. had less side effects than the band. After surgery I dropped the weight like crazy. People tried to discourge me..Its the best thing I did. I can eat anythuing without food getting stuck and running to the bathroom throwing it up...I have lost 68 lbs. in 7 mos. I forgot how good life can feel..My son in laws sister had it and lost 12- lbs. and his cousin lost 100 lbs. they feel great also. Do what you want, but I know u wont regret vsg...
