Weight loss Trifecta
I think therapy is invaluable. I lost over 300 pounds with therapy. I have binge eating disorder, and I'd never have been able to do it without my therapist. To be honest, I would not be able to do post-surgery without it, either. It's worked very well.
I think low carb eating works really well because it keeps cravings for sweet things down and is high satiety. The more fat and protein you eat, the more hormones that suppress appetite are secreted. I would also have two bites of steak than a whole rice cake, but that's just me! Heh. I ate a low carb diet for years and the surgeon said he could tell during the surgery, because even though I was 400 pounds I had almost no fat around my internal organs, and my liver looked healthier than most skinny people's do.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much...the life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully. -- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
Other things that help - a support network, being kind to yourself, exercise, drinking lots of no calorie fluids.. In fact I'd say that every aspect of my life has changed, at least a little bit.

"Don't forget the navy blue blazer."
My husband was a professor at Penn State until he retired. The unspoken "uniform" was a navy blue sports jacket with gray slacks. I guess the blue blazers were the real secret of his success!
