People still don't get it.

I am almost a week postop and the people in my support system just don't get it.   I'm still on liquids and have to drink concentrated protein drinks… Almost 100 g a day.  It's like the people on my support system and think that I am making this stuff up and that my dietary restrictions are just a joke.  But they fail to see is that if I don't meet those dietary and nutritional goals I am in danger of not only hurting myself but of ending up back in the hospital and not progressing and not moving forward and I can't seem to get through to people. One of my friends who is an RN said that my support system might benefit from some bariatric nutritional classes and speaking with the dietitian about the importance of my diet. The costs associated with a high-protein, low-carbohydrate, and low-fat diet.

We were at the store today and I nearly vomited  looking at all the other junk in the cart… And I just shook my head.

If you have access to a support group bring them. They are not trying to undermine you,  but rather they just don't get it. Stay strong!

It's actually getting them to go....plus I'm an emotional wreck the littlest things right now send me into a fit of tears or rage.

Sorry to say they aren't your support system, they may be family and friends but they are not in it to support you. The emotions are to be expected as you go thru rapid weight loss, that you can't change but you can change who is in your support system. Tell them what they need to do to support you and if they can't or won't help you then they are no longer a supporter. Then you can tell them you will no longer be able to use them for support so they don't need to be around if the are not going to be helpful.

As obese people we tend to put ourselves last, this is one thing I think we all end up having to face, we never want to hurt anyone else yet they have no problem being unsupportive to us sometimes. So one of the first things we learn on our journey is how to put our foot down and put ourselves first maybe for the first time in our lives. Others are either for us or against us and many don't think they need to be there for us in the end. So we need to learn who is really a supporter and who is just going along with things so that it looks good. So thin the herd if they are not being there for you and your journey. This is for your benefit not theirs. Just keep following your plan!

Emotional swings are totally normal throughout this entire process.  Are you seeing a therapist?

I hear you.  Both of my parents had RNY and they were the WORST after surgery.  "Wait until you have your first bite of mashed potatoes." and "The best is when you have your first bite of ice cream."  UMMMMM no neither of those are on my plan (and shouldn't be on theirs)!!  I'm lucky in that I've seen first hand what NOT to do after surgery.  Hang in there.  xoxo

Congrats on your good choices!  BTW how are your parents doing?  How long ago did they have their surgeries?

Yeah man! Post op is weird. I didn't tell many people I've had surgery. I was lucky enough I did field service and traveled from place to place for a while after surgery.  Then I took a different job after I lost 100 lbs. So people see me eating small snacks at different times of day. But these are my meals.lol. just try and keep your focus on you. Do what you need to do. Your Going to do great.
