i am coming up on my 6 month surgiversary and have my checkup. After my surgery my dr prescribed 40mg omeprazole for 6 months. I wondered how long others have taken it after surgery. On the days I firget to take it in the morning I have indigestion in the afternoon. I will talk to my dr at my appointment but I wondered if anyone else took it for longer than 6 months.

I took it for 3-4 months post-op.  Now I just take it if I get to feeling unusually hungry - in which case I'll take it for 2 weeks (which is a bottle of Nexium).

Still taking it. Over counter 20mg now. I have always had heartburn until I started taking it, even before surgery. My PCP will give me a prescription, but my surgery doctor stops it at 6 months. I don't allow the reflux to build up, I manage it daily. I so enjoy being heartburn free for the last 21 months after years of having it. I haven't gone to see my PCP this year yet so that is why I am using over the counter at a lower dose, which works just fine

I'm coming up on 6mths too, and now only take it intermittently. Been that way for about a month.

It felt like it was going to be a forever thing there for a while, but then things evened out.

I still take it daily and am 18 months out. But I took it daily pre-op too. It's completely controlled now, where in the past I sometimes supplemented with zantac or tums.

I take it in the morning have done so for over two years.  I can tell within an hour realizing I haven taken ot yet.  I know this will most likely be a life long thing but better than burning out the liner of my throat.

I still take it and Im 11 months out. I tried to go without at 6 months but in 2 weeks I was vomiting so I went back on it and havent had a problem since.

One year out and still taking it daily. Of course, the reflux is complicated by being pregnant, but I was taking it daily before then too.
