long drive after surgery?

I had to drive to North Carolina from central Florida right after leaving the hospital.  It was not impossible.  I was still on pain meds.  So my husband drove.  We got a small cooler to keep protein shakes and bottles of water and stuff in.  At every rest stop we would stop, use the facilities, and walk around.  It made the trip longer but it made it possible for me to go.

Its not impossible, but it takes planning.  Can someone go with you and do the driving?

I had surgery on Dec 16th and drove 7.5 hrs on the 24th. I wore support stockings and stopped to walk around every 2 hours plus made sure I sipped continuously. HOWEVER I did not have many obligations when I arrived at my destination, my father-in-law made everyone pretty much cater to me the 4 days we were there. You may have a rougher time with the social obligations at the end of your trip. You definitely need a second driver!
