Here I am nearly 16 hours postop. I guess I'll start with this I got here at the hospital at 6 AM and they ran me through a gauntlet of tests and I met everyone was going to be in the OR with me. Anesthesiologists were hilarious, one was very serious and he was older...the younger one was more fun. They told me they were going to do total IV anesthesia on me. After what seemed like endless Q&A, my Momma and BFF, came back to visit me for about 5 minutes and my surgeon came in we chatted and got introduced to my Momma, then the surgical nurses came in and introduced themselves. They were funny, like haha, funny. I got the opening kick-off drug, Versed, to take the edge off. I got a couple of selfies with my mom and BFF...and then we were off like a herd towards the OR. I got more drugs and as I slipped away the nurse told me to go to a happy place. Boom I was in Venice, Florida at the beach seashell and shark tooth hunting, with drinks and lunch under an umbrella...yes I actually did this and was a great memory.

The next thing I remember is waking up in recovery with a urinary catheter and drain tube. Someone was talking about Seinfeld and I make a comment about Newman, crack up the nurses and younger anesthesiologist...they were joking around and I played soup Nazi. After some time in recovery and deep breathing...they gave me liquid Tylenol and also Dilaudid via a pain pump without the pump my proud easily be 8 or 9 out of 10. So, it's a 5 now.

I have spent the night in ICU for one reason and Thais because my O2 saturation was a little low and I was shallow breathing...so ICU it is. They have been very attentive to my needs, worked with me on breathing, I got to sit up by 4pm, by 5 I had stood up and taken steps and sat in my chair for a while...did some leg exercises. Got some labs, some meds, and then went for a walk. It was slow, I was stiff and it hurt...didn't walk far but was steady on my feet sweating like a stuck pig too...the walk back felt better. I actually slept 4 hours and felt so refreshed. I started writing this...hehe. Today, I will get moved to the bariatric floor, hopefully get my urine catheter removed, a visit from PT/Occupational Health, more walking, and clear liquid breakfast...broth sounds soooo good right now. ce chips, ice chips, and ice chips is the nectar of life. 😉

Just passing the time, napping, and doing word searches.

Wow. Congratulations.  The fact that you are up and writing messages on the forum just 16 hours after surgery is pretty remarkable.  I'm glad you are doing well, and I look forward to watching your progress in your weight loss journey.

Welcome to the loser's bench!

Way to go! Welcome to the Losers Bench.

Sounds like you have a great medical team, you are doing awesome. It may seem unreasonable and crappy right now but walk as much as you can starting today, between rests. It helps tremendously with your O2 sats and getting the gas out of your body. The gas pain can hurt especially in the shoulders. This, too, shall pass. (Lol!)

Take care. ☺
