Hello. I've never posted before but have been following this forum for some time. After a year of tests, appointments etc., I was approved for a sleeve last week. My date is 7/14/15.

I am 5'4" and weigh 262.

I started my pre-op diet yesterday. My protocol is 400-600 calories per day using only protein shakes. I am struggling with intense hunger and headaches. Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks!

It's really rough the first 3-4 days, and then it gets much easier.  Hang in there, this is one of the really hard parts of the journey.  Soon you will struggle to get liquid and food in immediately post op.  You won't want any, imagine that!

My surgery date is 7/6/15 and they haven't put me on liquid yet, but I imagine at my pre-op appointment on 6/30/15 that they will.  So, I don't have any advice except that I will keep you in my thoughts! Everyone says the pre- and post- liquid diet is the worst so just think, once you're through that, it only gets better from there!!!! Good luck!!!!!

This is a tough time!  As was already posted, it gets easier.  Honestly, I think for me those hunger feelings were as much anxiety-related as anything else.  I was lucky to not get headaches.

Try to remind yourself that you're in for a HUGE transformation.  You know that already and your subconscious is dealing with it.  And most of us turned to food when we were stressed.  So your body and your mind are working against you right now!

Put your head down and power through this.  You've taken the biggest first step. Be kind to yourself and keep moving forward!

Also, practically speaking, drink water.  Lots, and lots, and lots, and lots of water.

Cspotrun is right..the first 4 days are the worst...but once you get past that it will get much easier..keep up with as much water as you can...watching the scale go down quickly will be fun and a great motivator! I remember feeling much more energetic too. I'm 9 weeks out and it seems a blur...there will be little bumps and frustrations on the way..but what the vast majority say is I LOVE MY SLEEVE..and I WISH I"D DONE THIS SOONER!!!  Good luck and see you on the loser's bench soon ;-)
