I'm in the VERY beginning stages of getting the VSG.  I've attended one orientation class and tomorrow I have another FOUR HOUR class (dreading sitting for that long!)  Anyway I just wanted to tell you that reading your post made me cry!  I am so ready to live a full life!  Something about being overweight has just left me feeling short changed.  I want to RUN and play and travel.  All the things that while you're overweight just seem like huge no can do things.  Reading your post just made me so happy to realize I CAN BE WHERE SHE IS!  Thank you so much for writing this.  You truly gave me the little extra inspiration I needed tonight to help me make it through the dreaded four hour class.  So THANK YOU!

Warmly,

Julia

You can totally do it and it is SO worth it. Read up as much as possible beforehand, and you get a sense of what works for other patients and what will work for you. I always did my best to live a full life before surgery but losing the weight really has opened so many doors to me, it's not even funny. Good luck with all the hoop-jumping you'll have to do pre-op. I wish I had hustled more during the pre-op phase (it took me a year from consult to surgery) because I'm now one of the "My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!" crowd.

Julia, I joined this forum on May 18, 2008. I had surgery on June 18, 2015.  7 years and 1 month!!! Got denied twice in 2010. Then realized I would have to be self-pay and began saving money.  Lost my job in june 2013 and was out of work for over a year. Finally started again with a bariatric briefing in March 2014. Found a part time job in July 2014, and wENT through the whole pre-op process again with Johns Hopkins starting in September 2014,  expecting to be self-pay. Got a new job in February 2015 and the insurance covered at 100%. Good things cone to those who wait!  But I am certain I am going to be in the "Wish  I had done this sooner – years ago!" group myself!!!

Best of luck to you as you get started. This board is an amazing resource frequented by people much more experienced than me. Before surgery, I searched and read as many posts as I could find and it really helped prepare me to know what others had been through. I think you'll find that if you follow your plan, you'll get to experience the same good stuff!
