total realization
Until today, my weight loss numbers have been just that, numbers. What happened today made it real.
I was helping a buddy of mine unload horse feed from his pickup, and carrying 2 50lb bags of pellets, 1 over each shoulder and moving them about 30 feet into his barn. They were F*ing heavy. it was hard work. My friend commented that I used to carry the bags all the time. I had to think about that comment for a few seconds before it sunk in. 9 short months ago, I carried not 2 bags, but nearly 3 50 lb bags with me every where I went. Every day of my life. IT WAS HARD F*&%ing work.
I am so aware of the gift Ive been given now. No more taking it for granted. Took me this long to wrap my head around what has been happening to my body, my mind, and my overall health.
Completely amazing.
I felt I needed to share this realization with all of you, in hopes that your experience is going according to your plans.
Its already exceeded my expectations, and now even MORE motivated to reach my goals. I still have another 50 pound bag or so to shed.
Now, more than ever, I want to reach that goal, and will work even harder to back up my sleeve.
The journey just got real for me.
I LOVE MY SLEEVE!

Well done! Rod. Congratulations on your success.
I had a similar experience where I was carrying 40 pound bags of sand from the car into the garage. I couldn't even carry two at a time, yet not to long ago, I was 225 pounds heavier than I am today! I used to get so frustrated with myself that I couldn't keep up with others, but looking back, I realize how hard it must be to carry that much extra weight. Thank goodness for my sleeve and WLS.
best wishes,
Carol

That is awesome. Great job.
Can I give you one bit of advice. DO NOT throw the grain bags on your shoulders. I have done that for 30 years and my left shoulder is jacked. I will have to have surgery at some point.
I had such pain in it a few years ago that I went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. Heart was fine, but the shoulder is in rough shape. I can only lift my left arm up halfway and then it pops.
Yea, shoulder pain is the worst.
I fell after slipping on ice about 10 years ago and just tore my rotator cuff all to hell. It sucked.
I had surgery about 6 months later and after 6 months of rehab, my left shoulder is bigger and stronger than my right.
My right shoulder is sore now, but the bionic left is stronger than ever. no pain, no aches, no problems.
Ive often thought about getting the right one fixed, but cant do the 6 month rehab at my age. Wouldn't be good.
Luckily, I don't have to carry heavy stuff very often, but when I do, I certainly pay the price.
Getting old sucks, but getting healthy is F%$#&ing great.

I too had a similar realization recently. To a smaller extent, due to the more recent surgery but the same moment of clarity for me. We all need these moments and thoughts to add to our tool box in this journey. VSG was only one of many tools needed?

I used to have much more strength when I weighed 449 lbs. Now I can barely lift a 5-gallon water bottle to put it on the dispenser without struggling.
But I'll take that anyday over being SMO

I too had a boat load of strength at a whopping 480 lbs. Just had to use 60% of it just to hold me up! lol
I know Im not quite as strong as I was say 30 years ago, but I can still hold my own.
When I graduated H/S, I weighed 285, bench pressed over 500 lbs, and ran a 5 flat 40 yd dash.
If I even jog 40 yds now, its because a big dog is chasing me or something. lol
But I feel 20 years have been given back to me. and I don't need that superhuman strength anymore.
I absolutely cant wait to see how the next 50 lbs effects my health. Its incredible don't you agree?
