Premier Protein question...
Hi Everyone...newbie here :)
I'm one week post-op and have been drinking Premier Protein RTD shakes since my pre-op diet (one week prior). Its listed in my booklet that I got from my surgeon's information meeting, as a recommended protein source. I don't know why it just hit me to look at the type of protein just now, but it's not Whey Protein Isolate! I'm worried that I'm already messing up because of this. Has anyone else been using Premier Protein shakes and everything worked out well? Should I go find the right protein source right away?
So confused!
Hi Jenna,
I used Premier Protein from day one and everything was fine. Every surgeon is different on what they want their patients to eat. Since this is on your approved food list you should be ok. When in doubt, give them a call just to be sure. I had my surgeon's office on speed dial the first 3 months. I am surprised they didn't use block caller on me
Keep us posted on how you are doing and congratulations on your surgery!

I believe that Premier changed their formula within the last few years - and paperwork might not reflect that. It might be worth mentioning to your NUT and seeing if they're aware.

Premier has always been primarily a milk based product, and I think they tweaked the ingredients in the last year to make it more so. There's less whey and more milk protein. But it really doesn't matter. Milk proteins are also good. Whey isolate is the most easily absorbed, but that doesn't mean that other proteins aren't absorbed. The only "protein" you should be wary of is collagen - basically what's in pork rinds. If you see collagen on the list of ingredients, back away. It's a protein, and good for your skin and hair, but it's not the complete protein that you need post surgery.
