Eating rice

Even white rice has a slight hull to it. Unless it is completely pureed, liquified, and put through a sieve, you risk having a bit of rice get stuck in your staple line and causing infection. Not what I would do. I would stay away from it.

I accidentally took a bite of sushi when we went out when I was about 10 weeks post op. So, one small bite of rice, right? I thought I was going to never recover! It was like a brick in my sleeve. We are talking less than a TBS. Many post ops can't begin to tolerate rice in any form for months and months. I still don't really like it and I'm 3+ years out.

That's exactly why I was concerned about eating rice. I knew that I could count people from this forum sharing their experiences. I look forward to paying it forward someday. Thank you!

Rice is bad for a couple reasons. One, because it's too high in carb and doesn't have any other good nutritional benefits.  Two, it tends to SWELL in the stomach and create discomfort.

I avoid it all costs even at two years out.

I did this and warmed itin the microwave just enough to warm it up. Tip use a little sauce , I have never had problems with pasta sauce before but now it causes heartburn.

Yes!! Eggface's ricotta bake is amazing, and I still eat it a year and a half post-op.

Rice is not a good option during your soft food stage or at any time during your weight loss.  It's nothing but carbs and could swell up in your newly sleeved stomach and cause your sutures/staples to rupture.  Since the nerves in your stomach have been severed, you won't feel much or any restriction at this point.

Stick to proteins.  Check out Eggface's website for ideas.  There are much better options available to you than the carb route.

Thank you for all of the advice. I love this forum for just that reason. I don't intend eating rice for at least a very long time if ever again. I'm going through a time of just having head issues about not being able to eat whatever I want. I have it under control and understand one of the reasons that I had the surgery was to have a tool that would help me to not over eat, and it's definitely doing it's job! Thanks so much for taking the time to help me today.

I'm two weeks post op and am eating soft foods per the Surgeons instructions. Would it be ok if I ate soft cooked rice in tomato sauce? I have a call in to the Nut but I'm wondering if this would be something that I can try today. Thanks!

There are 45 grams of carbs in one serving of rice.

10gms of carbs in 1/2 cup of marinara sauce.

2 weeks postop is exactly the time you should start concerning yourself with what you are eating.

I don't eat that many carbs in a whole day. Yes, many NUTS(irresponsible) nutritionist advise eating mashed potatoes, farina, oats... These are the foods that made us fat.  If you need something soft, fat free Old El Paso spicy refried beans with a slice of melted cheese. Excellent for the soft diet.

7 months out and I can eat salads and raw fruit, but rice makes me very sick.  And I grew up eating rice every day!  Now I avoid it completely.
