Thyroid and weight loss
Just a heads up to my fellow sleevers regarding thyroid tsh levels, I was surprised to learn that after losing 36 pounds it had thrown my levels off significantly. 18 yrs ago I had thyroid cancer and had my entire thyroid removed and placed on synthroid. Over the years my dosage increased with the weight gain...I was to maintain a tsh of about .5 to 1.00 to suppress the cancer from returning. Other then a few blips on the radar I managed this. Not realizing that with rapid weight loss this can throw levels off rather quickly. With the preop diet losing 21 pounds and an additional 15 pounds two weeks after surgery I was then checked and my levels had dropped dangerously to .05..which is wayyyy too low. So my Endocrinologist dropped my synthroid dose from 175 to 150 and will check tsh every 6-8 weeks during my weight loss phase.
So this is a shoot out to anyone who has thyroid issues to please get checked often!
Yes, I had labs done at 3 months post op and my TSH had gone up - not down, so I had the opposite problem. Good advice to keep on top of it.

I also had thyroid cancer back in the 70's.....and had mine completely removed. Since my surgery..I have been on three different thyroid medications and have had to have it regulated nearly everytime I go in. I have to have it checked at least every three months....sometimes sooner if there is a big change.
