Is this Smoothie I make healthy??

Hey Folks,

I just want to see if this homemade smoothie I make is healthy:

1/2 c of frozen strawberries

1/2 c of frozen yogurt

1/2 c of Orange Juice

1/2 c of ice

This is my once a week treat, however, I'm not sure if its the most healthiest treat for myself. I just want to make sure that I'm not undoing all of my good hard work and I don't cheat on my water or protein intake or exercise for that matter. Your thoughts are welcomed and appreciated.

If you use my fitness pal, it will create a nutritional data sheet for your recipe.  Try that and you will know exactly what you're eating.

Thanks Dan, I don't use it regularly, but now I think its getting to the point where I need to.

Bingo, that was my concern, the sugar. Okay, back to the drawing board for something tasty but healthy.

Hi, I ran this thru myfitnesspal.  The real wild card here is "frozen yogurt."  I used Menchies snow vanilla snow but it is easy to imagine that you have something with markedly different stats. 

That disclaimer aside, it comes to Protein 6g, Carbs 47g and 0 fat.  

I think you are right....it is not the healthiest treat for yourself   For me, that is way too many carbs and not much else of value.  But, the thing is, I think that there are smoothies out there along these lines that ARE healthy.  I think theworldaccordingtoeggface has lots of smoothie recipes.  Play around with different recipes, you will find something that tastes good and fits your plan.

Wow, I didn't even factor into account the Carbs and that exceeds my daily limit. No wonder I crave this weekly treat, lol. Loaded with sugar and carbs. Thanks for the site with "healthy" smoothie recipes.

You could tweak this to make it more program-friendly.

 

1/2 cup frozen strawberries  

 

1 container 80 cal Greek Yogurt

1 squirt Orange Mio

1/2 cup ice.

Now, the stats are 104 cals, 15 carbs, 0 fat, 13 protein 11 sugars. so, better.

If you really want to knock it out of the park, replace the 1/2 cup frozen strawberries with 1/2 scoop Strawberry Unjury powder.130 cals, 11 carbs, 23 protein.

I wouldn't call it healthy.  The juice and strawberries have quite a lot of sugar in them.  And if it's actual frozen yogurt that you've bought, it probably has a lot of sugar as well.

While I love fruit and smoothies, the only thing in that smoothie that fits into my planned eating would be the ice. I wad advised to avoid fruit and fruit juice until maintenance, and unless your frozen yogurt was plain or no sugar added Greek yogurt, it's not all that awesome for you either.

The suggestion of using fruit flavored protein powder or even an rtd like the strawberry premier protein would make it more WLS friendly, but you'd need to plan it into your day as a meal, not a 'treat' per se.
