People telling their story and showing pictures is what helped me so I thought I would do the same.  (Pics in Profile.)

Gastric surgery was recommended by my cardiologist in Jan 2014 and again by my primary doctor in April. Started lurking here on OH to gather information in Feb 2014.  I went to the Surgeon’s WLS seminar the last of May 2014.     So I started the weight loss 3 1/2 months before surgery.  I was at my highest weight ever, 362 BMI 55, and was motivated to lose the weight again while holding on to hope that this time I would keep it off.  I bought small plates and utensils and timed my bites all in an attempt to slow down the overconsumption process.  MFP tracked my baseline eating patterns of 3500 calories a day.  I was apathetic to the fat guy in the mirror but somehow the 3500 calories shocked me.  I started eating protein first then carbs.  I stopped drinking alcohol and switched to non calorie pain control.  Decided on the surgeon, took the steps to have surgery.  In Sept. 2014 my wife and I had VSG an hour apart.  I set my ticker with what I thought at the time was a “best possible” goal weight which was my weight when we married at 17.  I didn’t know about the post op planer in the resources section yet. I have been sticking to plan for 98% of the time.  I have exercised more than ever and looked forward to it but deal with chronic pain so chose to be happy with increased activity rather than regular exercise.  Maybe later I can do both.     The surgeon said 60% of excess body weight is what I could expect to lose if I stick to the plan.  60% of my excess weight would put me at 235 lbs.  I was 210 at the 7 month follow up with the surgeon. That is almost 75% of EBW.  He said so you’re done, right?  I felt good.     I wish I could have taken the journey sooner but I was not at a place on so many levels for that to happen.  I still struggle not to overeat. I fear regain.  But Onederland!  Weight 199. 8 BMI 30 is fantastic!  It has all been worth it.     Milestones of Weight Loss Journey (borrowed from Gwen) (6-20-2014) 362 -Super Morbidly Obese (BMI 54.6) (9-15-2014)  317 - WLS  (9-19-2014) 312 - Fifty lost from highest weight. As a pre-op I find these stories inspiring...

My journey thus far has been similar...cardiologist suggested WLS last year...PCP 2nd that recommendation...my OB-GYN had been on me for years being I was high risk for female cancers...which I got in 2012.

Have lost 40+ lbs. in the 3 mos. since I started this journey. Looking forward to getting to the other side in 3 months.

A big congratulations.

Kathy
