It was fine with my surgeon but you should check with yours. Different doctors have different rules.

My doctor also said it's ok a week post op.  Just a question though:  is is possible you don't have a constipation issue given you're so close out?  In other words, I've got a liquid diet for two weeks post op, and so I imagine there will be nothing to evacuate...so to speak.

You should ask your surgeon to be sure.

Thx for the reply. I'll wait until I call the surgeon tomorrow.  I definitely feel uncomfortable BM but too hard to pass. I'm on a pureed diet since day after surgery.

You can take Milk of Magnesia to get it moving and then once it starts add some Benefiber to your diet. It's better not to get so impacted but we have all had the cannonball poop.

This happened to me up until last week! I am 4 weeks post Op. It can be due to many things. Are you still taking pain medications such a percocet? That will constipate you for sure. Also as mentioned above it is very possible you do not have enough in your body to make an exit yet. My PCP told me not to strain. If you can not go try again in a little while. I know it is very frustrating. I was told by my Dr.'s I could take a stool softener and/or suppository or milk of magnesia. But also like others have stated call your Dr to be sure! Good luck! It will pass, promise.

I know it is so very uncomfortable!! But now you know the signs. It could take about 3-7 days for the body to work out all the percocet. Then you'll feel much better!
