Here are some realities so you get a broad view of "VSG" ......

The VSG is NOT a standardized procedure and in the last several years as more and more insurance companies began approving this procedure as a stand alone WLS more and more surgeons have started doing them and the VSG has grown in popularity.

The surgery and programs vary greatly at this point and the results seem to vary greatly also. The average WL that seems to get thrown out there is about 50-60% EWL meaning if you have 100lbs. to lose the average is losing 50-60Lbs.

Generally speaking the sampling you will get here on OH will have a little higher percentage of WL just because being active with an online support group of sort is showing a higher than average level of commitment.

You pose great questions and are already ahead of the game with your research.

The most important question you asked in your post is: "how do you see this playing out long-term"...... WLS is not really about the WL, it's about keeping the weight off that you lost. If you can't keep it off..... why have WLS in the first place?

I am about 5.5 years out and still claim no success at this. 5.5 years still feels early out.

But, in a nut shell it's been a great 5.5 years because I got my life back.

Keep doing your homework and never stop learning !!!!
