The head nurse at the hospital told me that expect at least 3 weeks of stall or gain. Bodies defense to the surgery is to hold onto water to protect itself. She said quit weighing yourself as it will most certainly be discouraging in this phase?

Male 55, Initial weight 388#, and 6'1" / surgery weight 360#/Current Weight is 296#

You can't consider 5 days a stall - you are not going to lose weight every day - track your weight loss weekly during weight loss and weigh daily after maintenance.

You definitely will not lose weight every day.  If this bothers you, go to weekly or monthly weighing instead.  You will experience stalls during the process.  Try not to let it make you crazy!

I recommend weighing once every 2 weeks the first month.  let your food log and exercise journal be your guide.  your body is inflammed, retaining water, healing from surgery, it's not going to drop weight every day even this early out.  kind of a bad habit to get into expecting that ... months from now it will be slower (though likely more regular).  also I'm guessing you are not drinkign enough.  They always say 64 oz, but that is like the minimum to not die.  overweight people actively losing weight .. you need 100-120 oz water a day.  more with activity.  This early out that is going to be a challenge to meet but its a goal for the future.  it will also help even ou****er retention issues you get from exercise, monthly cycle, sickness, salt intake, etc etc etc.
