First day home post surgery and I can't seem to get all my fluids in, I've almost met my protien goal but not my water intake

You know the liquid you mix the protein shake with counts toward the water total right?  I just sat and sipped over the 16 hours I was awake.  Best of luck.

Try different sorts of liquids.  Some people are better with hot tea, warm soup, room temperature crystal light.. etc.  Just keep experimenting until you find something that works for you.  Set a timer to go off every 15 minutes and drink an ounce each time it rings.

I really loved the herbal teas right after surgery - totally helped me get my fluids in. I also liked Crystal Light beverages a lot, too. Decaf lemon tea my fave - my but tended to want warm fluids (still do!)

Best wishes to you! Congratulations!

it is more important at first to get the liquid in if the shakes stop you from getting enough liquid stop drinking them for a few days , not enough liquid will get you back to the ER for a IV you will get dizzy , nauseous

the protien can wait , you can check this out with your surgeon

I did Gatorade G2, Propel and plain old water.  Just keep sipping, just keep sipping!

I found that chicken broth and tea went down easier for me. I think the warmth was easier on the tummy.  Good luck.

If you still can't get in your liquids after a week post-op, call your surgeon and ask for anti-nausea med.
