7 months today.....snacking again

So a couple of months back, I went from three meals and two snacks(which is my plan) to three meals.  I kept the calories the same.  My weight loss stopped.  I had cleared it with my nutritionist and Dr beforehand so I didn't see a problem.  So two weeks ago I switched back to three meals and two snacks and I've lost 4.6 pounds.  Very odd but my body didn't like the change.  I'm happy to be losing again but not thrilled with eating so often.  Oh well, whatever it takes.

At least you figured it out. Funny how our sleeved bodies react to change, foods, liquids, etc., from our pre-sleeved bodies. A 4.6 lb loss is fantastic! Maybe you can try the 3 meals again down the road or when you are in maintenance.  Good luck to you!

It's weird....I find with my body I have to mix it up and it sorta shocks the body. Sometimes I do snacks and sometimes I don't.

I have always eaten 6-7 times per day after my surgery and it worked fantastically for me. My nutritionist and doctor support this and say my body needs to be fueled every couple of hours and that's what's helped me succeed.

Plus, if I wait too long to eat I get the shakes and jittery. If the snacking works for you and you're still losing then it makes sense to continue that. The key is to plan and measure everything as well as track it. Your metabolism just may need to be fed more often than 3x per day.

One thing I've learned on this journey is what works for others may be completely different than what I need and i have to honor that. It's definitely not a cookie cutter journey.

It's good that you figured it out!

When I saw my NUT on Monday she said that they were considering changing the recommendation of 3 meals a day with no snacks to 3 meals a day with the occasional snack.  Pretty interesting!

Most current research indicates that blood glucose levels have a great deal to do with weight (gain, loss or maintaining). Keeping blood glucose levels stable is important in weight loss and weight maintenance. High blood glucose levels create excess glucose in the system that is easily stored as fat. Eating several times a day (my plan calls for 5-6 times per day) helps keep blood glucose levels stables making it easier for your body to shed weight. Three meals with the same number of calories (depending on the make up of the food you eat) could more easily cause a spike in your blood glucose levels.

Another benefit of eating more frequently is that it keeps the metabolism running at a higher level.

I never knew that but it makes very good sense!  Thanks for sharing!

Kairk...I agree with what you have said here and I have read this in my research as well (about the glucose levels and about the metabolism). My surgeon and Nutritionist said three meals a day. But because of my research, I started adding one to two snacks a day after month 2 and my weight loss has been higher this month 3 than the first two months. I also feel better, not jittery, more balanced. :-)

I have found that I lose more consistently with snacks.  I can't eat what I need to in 3 meals so I find 5 - 6 small plates are best for me. When I skip my snacks my metabolism slows. I also find that I tend to get hungry and go after the wrong foods if I don't strategically plan healthy snacks thru out the day. If you are active during the day you need to keep fueling your body so you don't stall out.

Glad you figured it out.

Getting hungry and going after the wrong foods is something I struggle with as well. It's something I'll have to keep in mind: it's a problem that can be overcome with good planning. Thanks!
