swallowing pills or capsules

How many weeks/months were you able to swallow pills or capsules whole? I'm asking this on the VSG forum hoping other VSG patients will answer,  thank you. 

I had no problem swallowing pills from day 1.  My surgeon didn't want me to swallow pills for 2 months, and the ASMBS says we should use chewable vites for the first 3-6 months.  

My program let us swallow pills within a few days after surgery.  They said they'd never had anyone have a problem with a pill getting stuck. 

But its best to check with your surgeon and follow his advice.

I have had no problems taking small pills like my vitamin d and PPI but since all my other vitamins are chewable I haven't had to try taking anything larger. At almost four weeks out I can drink a few small swallows of water in a row with no difficulty so I could probably handle a largeish pill if I needed to. 

I also didn't have any problems swallowing pills from day 1 & after my 1 month post-op with my surgeon, he ok'd getting off of chewables (I had a very hard time with the flavor of the chewables & they made me nauseous).

They had me swallowing pills in the recovery room! My BP was spiking, and they were making me take BP meds. And they made me sip the water through a straw. I tried telling them no, but I was so incoherent due to the fact I was just waking up from surgery, I wasn't making sense LOL
Finally my anesthetist came to see me, and he understood what I was saying (I was in pain) he gave me something in my IV, and I felt better. My BP also went down to normal.

I shouldn't have taken those pills or the water through a straw. It REALLY hurt my chest area. Felt like they were stuck. I survived though, and was taking pills on about day 3 when my pain pump came out.

I threw up once at 5 weeks because I took my prenatal vitamin (big pill) and gagged on it. That's the only problem I've had. I'm 10 months out now.

I was taking giant mediformin pills (1000 mg) the day I got home from the hospital , but my nut says chewable vits and minerals are better absorbed than pills with the small stomach and less acid
