BMI increase and 2 NSVs
Last week I watched my niece participate in a high school dance showcase. I've been attending for years, but this year I could finally enjoy it. The seats fit! I was comfortable, not spilling into the neighboring seats!
Then I watched my niece compete in Special Olympics. I could keep up with her instead of sitting trying to watch from the bleachers. I could walk fast enough to see her get her medals!
I used to be 5'7 and 3/4 inches, which I preferred to round to 5'8". Last year the bariatric surgeon said I was 5'6". I was hoping it was just all the weight keeping me from standing up straight, so I demanded a recount from my PCP. Still 5'6". That caused an instant increase in my BMI, but I guess I should quit living in denial. I guess I'm not getting my lost inches back. I'm only 55, and hauling around over 400 pounds was definitely a load-bearing exercise. It seems too early for me to be shrinking, even though there is a history of osteoporosis in my family. Should I be worried?
If you have a family history of osteoporosis, it's probably not a bad idea to get a baseline bone density scan right now and see where you are. Talk to your doc about supplementation, even if you turn out fine because you'll want to maintain your bone density. I'm an RNY-er and I just had my first bone density scan at 18 months out and everything came back normal. I'll probably have another one in about 5 years, so I need to make sure I keep up on my supplementation. :D

When I was in high school, I was over 5'9. Now at 52, I am just under 5'8. No issues, doctor just said it was normal.
I need to get my Teeter inversion table out and stretch myself.
