Protein Shakes

I have been drinking them since my surgery 6 weeks ago, but they give me digestive issues.  I'm not able to eat enough food to get my protein, so I'm wondering what I can do to get my protein without the drinks.  Any suggestions?

Have you tried any of the powders or soups?

No, I didn't know there were soups!  Where do you buy the powders?  I live in a small town and I can't find it anywhere here so I will have to go to the city.

Could you be lactose intolerant?  Some protein powders/ drinks have lactose in them.  Check the label.  If the protein contains whey concentrate, it has lactose in it.  Whey Isolate is 99% lactose free.  Many powders will say 99% lactose free on the label.  Mix powders with water, unsweetened almond milk, soy milk, or cashew milk.  I'm lactose intolerant and it took months for me to figure out why my stomach was always upset.  As soon as I eliminated the  lactose, I felt GREAT!

Try shakes with other sources of protein.  Or try mixing powder with almond milk instead of cow milk.  I order my powder from Amazon.

I had my sleeve on Feb 02 and became lactose intolerant! Never had the problem but after surgery it appeared. My dietician told me that 2% of sleevers develop lactose intolerant! Go figure.  I switch to soy and almond milk and felt better. Hope this helps.

My sleeve did not like the pre-made protein shakes that my nutritionist recommended, and I had to improvise. It was really tough getting my protein in right after surgery when anything I put into my mouth made me full. I started using protein powders instead and I had to experiment for a while before I found one that worked for me. It takes time but be patient. Also, if you have a GNC or other health food store, they could have some recommendations for you. If not then you can try ordering it from Amazon. I use GNC unflavored protein and I mix it into anything I can (smoothies, soups, ground beef, etc.) to get extra protein. Keep experimenting. Good luck!
