Need cheap, good vitamins
Hello all,
Up until this month my vitamins had been coming with my Nascobal through ProCare PharmacyCare, but my insurance just switched me to getting Nascobal through OptumRX. It is now $20 for a 3 month supply as opposed to $10 a month like it previously was, but I no longer get the free vitamins PCPC offered.
I have difficulty swallowing pills, so the BariActiv vitamins that came were perfect for me (chewables). Does anyone know of any super cheap chewables? I think I only need Calcium (+D3 and Magnesium) because my RN just told me of a multi she wants to switch me to that has enough Iron. I know about Bariatric Advantage Calcium chews but they are just way too expensive for me.
I used Wellesse liquid calcium for several weeks after surgery. It has calcium citrate, magnesium, and D3. At the time, it was cheaper than the specialty bariatric chewable calcium on a per-dose basis because I could get it with free shipping from Amazon Prime. But they've taken the free shipping away so the cost is higher -- not sure how it compares to the bariatric chewables any more.
The Viactiv chews and Tums are calcium carbonate. You will absorb very little calcium from these, and the carbonate can cause kidney stones.
You really should stick with the ASMBS guidelines and use calcium citrate.

Your surgeon and NUT are doing you a disservice by recommending Flinstones. Regardless of the name, they're far from complete. We're supposed to get 200% of most vitamins and minerals - Flinstones is missing 1/3 of them.
