What does your doctor's program tell you to do?  You need to follow that program....period.

The pre-op diet programs vary all over the board, from several weeks of only liquids to no diet at all and everything in between. In principle, if the idea of the diet is to improve the condition of the liver prior to surgery, then any low carb type of diet is suitable and adding some veg would be fine. It's not uncommon to see plans that call for protein shakes along with some lean meats and veggies within some specified calorie limit. I have no idea what the purpose of the liquids-only diets are, so that is up to your doc as to why he wants that done (never found a good explanation for that). It's best to check with him or his staff on such deviations.
