I had the same pre op diet. 2 shakes and 4 oz of protein with 1/2 cup veges a day. I started my diet the Monday before Thanksgiving and then had to make Thanksgiving Dinner. It was hard. I cheated a little the second week and still lost 14 lbs. It was pretty hard because you are still hungry.

My nutritionist told me that the 1-2 week liquid pre-op diet is what is known as the "liver-shrinking" diet. It's sole purpose is to reduce the size of your liver so it won't be an obstacle during surgery. A last-day real-food meal won't undo what the liquids have already done, as long is you don't eat past the deadline they give you before your surgery time.

I'm glad my pre-op diet was liquid only.  I think I would have tried to be, um, creative with one meal a day and screwed myself :P  Easier for me to just know that I could only have shakes.
