You MAY have more of a need for your surgeon than I will require an OBGYN, but not by much.

I saw my surgeon once.  I see the PA and nutritionist when I go.  My PCP does my labs.  I got the first giant list of labs from the surgeons office, but they actually told me to find someone to monitor me if that was easier for me (because they were pretty far).  They had no problem with that.  I would nicely tell your surgeon that since you get regular blood work or care with the PCP, that you will have them monitoring you from here on out.  Give him a box of chocolates or something, to not burn bridges or show hard feelings.  Just in case...you never know.
