Hello,

How much water can you drink at a time as you get farther out? I'm still quite new and wondering how I'll ever get to 64 oz. once my liquids have to be separated from meals.

Thanks!

Laura

It does get better. I am able to drink 100+ ounces daily. Keep drinking all day long.

I drink around 120 ounces daily.  You will be able to work yourself up to 64 ounces.  Just keep sipping.  When the swelling goes down you will be able to take larger sips and soon you will be drinking normally.

Hi I am 5 weeks out and can only get in about 35 - 40 oz per day along with broth/soup/protein shakes.  It is a work in progress.

I can get in 80oz or more quite easily. I'm 11 months out, it's only seltzer water that is a little harder to get down, so I sip on that most of the time. It'll get better, keep at it.

I can chug.  The first week was hard, but it slowly got easier.  I used vitamin water zeros at first to help.  Even 6 weeks out it was much MUCH easier.

While you're sipping and on a liquid diet - this isn't a concern, but a full-time job just the same.  Once your stomach is no longer swollen, it's a little easier, but still work to get in 64oz.  Keep in mind that this isn't something to work up to - but something that you MUST DO as early as  the day the IV is removed from your arm.

I'm almost two months post-op. After the first week of full liquids, I went to pureed foods and had an awful time getting enough to drink. I went to the ER twice because of severe dehydration. My surgeon prescribed Zofran for nausea, and I was able to get in 64 oz., although at times it was a bit of a chore. Six weeks post-op was a turning point for me -- the healing progressed enough for me to drink almost normally.

My recommendation is the same that others on this site advised me -- if you're having trouble drinking enough water, ask your doctor for Zofran or a similar anti-nausea med. It will calm your stomach down enough to be able to drink your full water requirement.

I was able to drink 64 ounces from the get go and I now get in over 100. Try sugar free popscicles and jello to get to your goal. Good luck!

I'm not very far out, but drinking is easier now than it was the first week or so. I'm always thirsty & if I don't drink my mouth is disgustingly dry - so I always have a drink & I'm always sipping water unless it's meal time/after meal time. If you constantly drink when you're not eating or sleeping, you'll get enough water in without much of a problem.

Ive realized I can drink pretty quickly, but I try not to. Usually first thing in the morning I end up chugging a bit without meaning to.
