recommendations for calcium citrate
So when I was discharged the nutritionist said not to worry too much about the calcium supplements since I'll be getting it in milk and such everyday but to focus on protein and water most. So I didn't take the calcium for the first couple weeks. Now I've tried to take them and they are just huge and I can't really handle them. Feels like they get stuck in the top of my stomach or something- very uncomfortable. There's no way I can take like 3 or 4 of them per day. I need something easy to take. For my regular vitamins I take 2 Flintstones complete with iron per day, theyre chewable and those are fine.
I take the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate that are Chewable. They are caramel-consistency. They are a little pricier than the others, but they go down well. You have to order them on-line, but you can get them on-line at their website at bariatricadvantage.com. If you have them auto-refilled you can get free shipping. Hope this helps. Kay :-)

I started taking calcium the day I came home from the hospital. It was BlueBonnet Liquid Calcium Magnesium Citrate, Blueberry. Comes in other flavors. Now I'm taking Twinlab Calcium Citrate with Magnesium and Vitamin D3 chewable tablets, citrus flavored. I've heard people like the Bariatric Advantage Calcium citrate caramel chewy's. All these can be found on amazon.com. Good luck.
I use bariatric advantage 500mg chews in peanut butter chocolate. Yum.
Also, nix the Flinstones. They're not actually complete, regardless of the name.

Sadly, yes. They're lacking in something like 1/3 of the vitamins and minerals we need. I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but we need something with 200% of most vitamins and minerals. (According to the ASMBS.) Flinstones are pretty deficient and your surgeon's office isn't going to be the one who suffers from vitamin deficiency!

My surgeon's office had me taking the Flinstones vitamins only for the first month so I was getting some supplement and it wasn't hard on my sleeve. After my one month followup they said I could take any multi that had the correct values. Now I am back to taking my Centrum Adults 2x a day.

You need to take Calcium CITRATE, not Calcium Carbonate.
These are the Bariatric Advantage 500mg Calcium Chews. I prefer the caramel over the peanut butter, but they are both great. I take three a day. A little pricey, but not compared to what I used to spend on food prior to surgery.
