6 months out-how many calories should I eat?

I am six months out and I still get most of my protein from shakes because it's easy. I have been staying under 700 calories a day.

How many calories do you eat? What about carbs and fat?

I eat three meals a day - breakfast is always a protein shake, lunch and dinner are 4 ounces of solid foods that are mainly protein.  I definitely would not want to still be living on shakes at this point, although I do like getting that shake in for breakfast.  :)

I don't count calories, I avoid processed/refined carbs.  I don't worry about fat because of the portion sizes and meal numbers that I adhere to.

At 6 months out I still had a protein shake am and night snake.  I was getting 1000-1200 calories.  I was aiming for 100 g plus protein but, alway**** at least 80 g.  I don't track fat.  I also am of the 6 small meals/snack following.  It keeps blood levels more stable and I don't get too hunger.

I tried to eat about 600 calories a day in the weight loss stage and i usually got 60-64 grams of protein a day.  Toward the end I was at about 800-900 calories a day.  I think I usually at about 40-60 carbs a day too.  I could not stomach another protein shake after surgery so I think I've had one since then.  I'd rather eat than drink my calories and my nut/dr are okay with 60ish grams of protein since I have plenty of energy.  I also try to keep low on fat but enough is in my normal diet that it's in a good range.

At six months I was averaging about 1100 calories per day, which is what I had been doing thru most of my loss period, and as I was within 10 lb or a month of goal started bumping up the calories to ease into maintenance (doc wanted me to cut back the exercise to slow things down, which wasn't going to happen as I was only doing my basic maintenance level of exercise.) I never controlled carbs or fat, but worked to optimize the non-protein part of my diet which on average worked out to a roughly even caloric split between the two (much as it continues to be.)

At this point, you should probably just continue to keep doing what you are doing until you are at, or at least very close to, goal.

I still use protein shakes, but I try to limit it to just 1 a day, usually it's my Chike. It's protein coffee that I use with unsweetened soy milk. The rest of the time I eat dense protein & occasionally a protein bar. I try to keep it between 800 & 1000 calories a day. The higher end for more protein (100g), the lower end for my minimum (80g). I aim for under 60g for carbs, & I don't count fat.

My plan doesn't call for me to count calories, carbs & fat. They want me to get at least 80g of protein, but I can go higher if I want, then get carbs from veggies & the minimum 64oz of water but I aim for 80 or more. The numbers I use are more of a guideline kind of thing. I use it to adjust as needed as I work my way down.

Funny, looking at all the answers you can see there is no one 'right' answer. Although I have had RNY, I know this is the same for the VSG patients too in my surgeons office. He only has us count proteins and liquids. 60-80g protein and minimum 64oz liquid a day. His mantra is: "Protein first, then veggies and if you have any more room, fruits then starches." Starches are at the end of the list, so while he is not saying 'low carb' it will be if you follow the rules. Fats are in moderation... nothing fried, but I use olive oil and butter on veggies, or to saute things... or olive oil in salads...

Sounds like your doing great !!!

If I'm reading right, 6 months out, 12lbs to go.

I'd keep doing what your doing, if you need to adjust to lose the last weight, adjust down and not up.

I had to be closer to the 600 to lose the very last weight.

Don't be fooled.... calories matter and maintenance is pretty much all about calories.

I am 6 months out and I do 700 calories a day. 60-80g of protein, 30-40g of carbs, and 20-30g of fat.

I eat 5 meals because I still cannot tolerate more than 2.5 ounces during a meal. Liquids are fine.

My typical day:

B: Protein Shake, coffee with half and half.

S1: 80 cal yogurt or 1oz beef jerky

L: Some sort of dense protein, usually 2 ounces of meat.

S2: 1oz Beef jerky, 1/2 oz pork rinds, yogurt

D: Dense Protein, 1/2 avocado, a small amount of veggies (5 green beans as an example). The avocado is a must for me. It really helps me lose weight for some reason. Since this meal approaches 3 ounces usually I take about an hour to eat it.
