Grilled chicken salad?

I know that it is said to eat protein first, veggies second. Does this apply to mainly dense veggies or does it also include lettuces/spinach?

I'd like to have some fresh baby spinach and/or spring mix with some grilled chicken, and I miss the texture of having both in the same bite. Since lettuce chews down so well, would it be ok to eat these together, or is it still advisable to eat my protein serving first separately, and then have bites of the salad with any extra room left over?

I'm 2 months out, cleared for all foods.

Thanks!

I just posted about a salad I made tonight!

Have you tried veggies yet? While you're out so soon,  you're still really limited on capacity. If you haven't tried them all yet,  I would see how they each settle with you separately.

For me, I'm over a year out and know how much I can eat. I measure my protein first,  then make a small salad for it. I can usually do about 3-4oz of dense protein over one cup of mixed vegetables, lettuce included in that. If I have more fibrous vegetables like asparagus or carrot, I can't have as much. I chop my veggies small too.

The paperwork from the surgeon I spoke with suggested three bites of protein to one bite of vegetables.

I make a lot of casseroles, and dishes that are mixes of veggies and meats, and I eat them together.  I usually make sure the first few bites are mostly meat, and then just eat the dish as normal.  I think as long as you get some dense protein down there first to trigger the closing of the pyloric valve, you'll be fine.

best wishes,

Carol

Just accompany a little lettuce with a bite of chicken, but be careful of salads.  They made me very uncomfortable for several months.  Something about raw veggies took a while to enjoy.

I wasn't allowed to eat salad until 3 months post-op. This is were our eating plans are different. If you were cleared, guess you might want to try a little at a time to see how your stomach reacts.I always eat my protein first then I work on the veggies/salad.

I'd say use your best judgement.  You can have a couple of bites of lettuce & chicken together, but the salad will fill you up quickly.  You do want to make sure that you get in your protein.

I wasn't cleared for any lettuce for the first 6 months.  Don't know why, it's just the plan I was on.

I won't give you my rendition of how salad is a waste of space in your tiny sleeve at this point because - sigh! - people want their stupid salads.  When really, what they need is the dark green veggies in it.

I couldn't do any veggies at 2 months out.  I had enough issues just getting to 80 grams of protein per day.
