Dizziness after surgery, and weight loss
I had my surgery on Jan 22nd, and since have had issues with dizziness. It seems like it is getting better. The doctors have done blood tests and I have been getting all my fluids, and protein. Is this normal? My doctors haven't been able to narrow down the reasons... Also, it seems odd because the first week and a half I lost 25 pounds, stalled for a while, and have been bouncing back and forth on the scale, and not sure why. I have lost 34 pounds all together; the other 9 over the last 5 weeks... It seems so slow. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
Are you dizzy when you stand up from sitting or lying down? If so, look up orthostatic hypotension. It's pretty common, and gets better over time. In yhe meantime, you need even more fluids -- whatever you've been getting isn't enough. Also, more salt and other electrolytes, and stand up slowly.

Wow, losing 34 lbs. in less than 2 months is pretty frickin' AMAZING! Seriously, when was the last time you lost that much in 7 weeks?
As for the dizziness, there are a couple possible reasons. Low blood pressure dips being one of them. As we gained weight our body produced more blood volume, which stretches out our veins a bit. As you lose weight your blood volume reduces but the veins don't necessarily snap back into shape. So you'll get dizzy spells on standing up because the blood is still pooled in your lower extremities.
I was advised to pump my legs a bit (like air cycling) or to tense up my calf muscles and release them a couple times before standing. It really did seem to help.
Thank you Tracy... I guess I never thought of it as 34 pounds in less than 2 months. I was looking at how much I lost in the first week and a half, and then how slow the rest has seemed. Thank you for a different perspective. Also, thank you for the information about dizziness. We will see if it helps.
