First dinner out since surgery next week...freaking out a little.

My boyfriend's friend is having a birthday dinner and my boyfriend said we would go. It's next week, the day after I'm allowed to start soft non-puréed food.

The restaurant is one of those Brazilian places where you pay and they bring around a boatload of different meats & some veggies. This place has a salad bar, but I won't be cleared for raw veggies yet. Do I order an appetizer & hope for the best? Or let the boyfriend pay $30 for me to eat tiny bites of meat & cooked veggies? Or fake sick that day? (Lol)

Personally I would order soup or an appy. I would not allow anyone to pay $30 for food I won't be able to eat.
I'm 8.5 months out and that would STILL give me anxiety! LOL

Just order something small, and pick at it. Take home what you don't finish

Good luck & have fun! :)

At Brazilian steakhouses there is no menu for soup or appetizers. Just meat on swords and the salad bar.

This place does have a small appetizer menu, with one (maybe two) things I could possibly eat a bit of.

If it was me..... and I did have similar situations like most of us do....my surgery and food stages were right before Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I would absolutely not go.... wouldn't even cross my mind..... nada.... ziltch...fake sick or what ever.

For one, your still very early out and discovering food tolerances and amounts while out is not a good idea.

Some will think or say "I'm not going to stop living"..... well fine, your choice. Some things you have to do and some things you don't have to do.

Think of next years birthday dinner for bo's friend and 12 sizes smaller  .....

I promise you that if you give yourself and this process the priority and really get a handle on things, it gets pretty easy and you will be looking forward to social events and activities without any thought.

Don't let anybody or anything get in your way !!!

When I was about 6 months out, I sent a picture to my surgeon with me at a hotel buffet in Tokyo holding a plate with some food on it and the caption said "sometimes you have to pay $35 for 3oz. of food."

My husband's birthday was about a month after my surgery, and we went out to dinner.  It was my first restaurant meal. I could only eat an ounce to 1.5 ounces at the time.   I ordered scallops as an appetizer and I ate half of it and took the other half home.  You can make it work.

best wishes

Carol

I did a Brazilian steakhouse like this (Fogo de Chao) at 5 weeks. I scoped out the salad bar first and found it had cheeses, smoked salmon, and meats like prosciutto. So I went salsd bar only and stuck with those things.

I like Gwen's idea - see what's on the salad bar. If there are no options for you it's best not to go.
