I am 3 weeks post op today and I am only down 14 pounds. Shouldn't I be losing more this early on? I'm following the diet, but I know I'm not getting all my protein in. Any advice?

Every person loses weight differently, based on starting weight, type of surgery, and many other factors. 14lb in 3 weeks is fabulous-- could you have done that before surgery??-- so be patient and keep working.

Protein is super important, and so is getting in the habit early on. Make sure you hit your daily goals and drink plenty of water as well.

You are doing great!  14 pounds is 14 less than you were 20 days ago!  Don't rush things...the pounds will continue to drop....keep up the good work!!

From the day I started the pre op diet until now, I'm down 27 lbs. But I've seen people who are at 40. It's hard not to be discouraged, but Like the other poster said, we'll all use on our own terms. Hang in there, you're doing fantastic!

14 pounds in three weeks is wonderful.  That's almost 5 pounds per week! think about it! That's amazing.

If there was one insight I could share with new VSG'ers, it would be to remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint.  Ultimately, it doesn't matter how fast you lose if you keep it up for a lifetime.  Every month you will be lighter and healthier.  Does it really matter if you get to goal in 6 months or 12 months or 18 months, or 2 years?

I would obsess about the number on the scale, always wishing I'd lose faster.  But looking back, I see how phenomenal the weight loss was, and I wonder why I didn't just sit back and enjoy the process rather than being so anxious.  My first month, I lost 20 pounds -that's about the same as you.  By 18 months, I was at goal, with a normal BMI, losing 96% of my excess body weight. And I was a heavy weight.  I  lost 225 pounds.

Best of luck in your weight loss journey.

Carol

Some people get off to a little slower start and then just kill it in months 2 & 3.  I was more typical where it started off good and slowed waaaaay down after that.

Water is more important than protein right now so make sure you are getting at least 64 oz. in a day.
