I was Chike on the "What are you eating today VSGers?" thread. I was wondering if it can only be made as an Iced Coffee or can it be made hot as well? :-)

We add it to coffee but we stay below 140 degrees.

You can have protein powder in hot beverages, but you can't put it directly in.

Mix your powder in lukewarm liquid to make a slurry, then you can mix it in something really hot. If you put protein powder directly into hot liquid, you will get a clumpy mess.

I'm still pre-op but trying to learn all I can before my surgery.  I've never heard of Chike before.  What is it and how do you pronounce it--does it rhyme with bike?

I believe it is a brand of protein supplement. It comes in a couple of different coffee and espresso like flavors along with others.

If you get a Whey Hydrolyzed Isolate you can mix into coffee without any problems. There aren't many of them out there and they cost more, but I think it's worth it! The one I prefer is Progenex Belgian Chocolate. I've also tried Dymatize Iso 100 from GNC. Because it's an Isolate, it has as much of the milk protein removed as possible, which keeps it from curdling. The nice thing about GNC is if you don't like it, you can return it. Progenex can be ordered from their website and they do have samples you can order.
