"How many pounds have you lost?"

I admit, I am embarrassed at how much I weighed at the start of this venture. So while I am very pleased with my progress, I don't care to answer with specifics when someone (usually my thinnest friends, co-workers & family) asks me how many pounds I have lost.  Does anyone else get this question, and how do they answer?

I answer with the truth! I'm super proud and it's fun watching people's eyes bug out.

I think it is a rude question so I rarely answered it when i was losing. I usually just said I wasn't exactly sure. I think the people who asked what size I was along the way were rude, too. I do talk about it now (6+ years out), but only when I want to. If the person asking is obese and I actually think they are considering surgery, I give more specifics, but most people are just being nosey so I usually tried to **** them off on purpose. I can be a ***** when I need to be.

I tend to tell people the truth.  It's no secret that I was MO so it's fun to see their reactions when I tell them how much I've lost.  Your thin friends aren't asking because they look down on you for being overweight.  They're asking because they can see you're losing weight and are genuinely curious.  At least, that's the view I take on it when my skinny friends ask me this question.

I tell anyone who asks the exact number. Yes I am extremely embarrassed of where I was but I am more proud of where I am.
