1 month post op
So today makes 1 month. I've lost 35 lbs since preop and 23 since surgery date. No as much after surgery as I had hoped but I guess as long as it goes down anything is good. It's very frustrating to know that you are only taking in 600 cals and only drop a couple of pounds a week. I guess the thing I'm most happy about are my measurements. I've lost 19 inches overall. Right now just walking, and will be glad when I can start on my circuit training for the bat wings. I wish everyone a happy valentine's day and a great weekend!
BrendaRae, you are doing great!! I had to reply because I've been known to make the exact same comment about only taking in 600 calories and not losing. I wanted someone to explain the science behind it to me. But I guess there is no science. I'm 3 months out. Have lost 39 lbs. The entire month of January and first week in February, I lost a lb a week! Now this week I dropped 4 lbs. I'm getting use to it now, but it was hard to accept in the beginning. Good Luck to you!! Keep on truckin!
Bonnie like Brenda I am a slow loser as well. I will be a month pre-op next week and so far I have lost 15 pounds post op and 11 pre op. It's nice you put some things in perspective for us as far as weight loss goes. I too get frustrated at how little calories I take in but I'm not losing weight. I am starting to accept it more little by little. I know as long as I do what I am supposed to the weight will come off.
Brenda-you are doing great! Just keep up the hard work:)
Im 2 months post op and just had this conversation this morning with myhsuband. I am only averaging around 500-700 cal a day and haven't lost anything in 3 weeks. I lost 25 pounds the first 5 weeks after surgery. From reading on here forever, I know this happens, it's just when it's happening to you , it seems so baffling..lol. I'm ignoring my scale for a while, hopefully will start to come off again soon. Good Luck!
I'm post off 2 mos today. also lost 2 to 3 lbs a week now stalled for the last 3 weeks. Yet the amount of food eaten is small..I'm glad by following the posts on this site. makes you know your not alone..I will continue to try my *******so am a slow loser. Today I surely thought maybe a pound...it can be frustrating. I'm with you ignore the scale...
It makes me sad that people go into this process with such unrealistic expectations. You've lost 23 pounds in a month, that's freaking amazing. Have you ever done that before in your life? Have you ever consistently, over long term, lost "only a couple of pounds" a week? And the loss will slow down as you get closer to goal. When you're a year post-op, will you be upset that you're "only" losing a pound a week?
And nothing will help the excess skin aside from plastic surgery. Weight training is awesome for toning muscle under that excess skin, but the bat wings will still be there.

I don't think it is unrealistic expectations, Gwen. I think it is lack of experience. You don't realize that you are going to eat 6oo calories a day and not lose weight for over a month and then drop 4 lbs. It's all a learning curve. No, we have never over long term lost "only a couple of pounds" a week but have never eaten only 600 calories a day either. It is a tool like everyone says, but when you are eating so few calories I guess you do expect miracles until you learn better!
Miracles are pretty unrealistic!
