I had my VSG on 3/7/14. Was diagnosed with breast cancer 5/16/14, double mastectomy on 6/20/14 and flap reconstruction on 12/10/14. I needed a blood transfusion after the last surgery, but my Dr wanted me to rebuild my blood thru food instead of a transfusion. So, with still having good restriction, I ate liver, spinach, kale, etc, for breakfast lunch and dinner for about 3 weeks, along with taking an iron pill the Dr prescibed. Today was my 2nd day back to work. I have lost 108 lbs so far, with 2 lbs to go til I reach the goal that I never thought I would reach. Now that I'm almost here, I think im going to revise my goal and try to drop another 15 lbs. That would put me in the normal range (right now I'm "overweight").  I thought that I would be the only failure for this surgery, I never thought in a jillion years that I would weigh under 200, but here I sit at 172. I lost slow because of the boob surgeries (fluids, being at the mercy of my caretakers, etc), but im back on track again, and was just cleared for light exercise again. For those that dont think it will work, if I can do it, then anyone can,  it just takes dedication to your own health.

I'm going Saturday for a mini photo shoot. I would like to see what everyone else sees. People tell me I look good, but my brain still thinks im morbidly obese.

No matter what stage of weight loss you're in, be thankful for every day, thankful for your progress, even if its "just" the decision making progress. Take a minute to love yourself and your potential.

ok, thats enough mushy stuff. Have a great day and thanks for letting me share!

Thanks. This board has inspired me beyond belief. I would have never been able to improve my life like I have without it. I just want to offer my encouragement to those who need it!

Congratulations, Big Red!  What an Awesome job working that sleeve.  I am so pleased for you.

I also set my goal in the "overweight" range and then lost 20 more to bring me to a Normal weight.  I also thought I'd never get below 200 pounds.  This weight loss surgery really works.

Best wishes,

Carol

Congrats on your weight loss & overcoming the challenges, obstacles, craziness, etc that have come your way. The mind does take awhile to catch up with the body. I know I still have clothes that are way too big but am reluctant to part with them. Right now I keep piling them up on a chair or the bottom of my closet, or just rotate them from 1 closet to the next. LOL! Enjoy your photo shoot!
