Catheter?

Did anyone have one after surgery? I won't have a drain, but I will have a catheter inserted while I'm under. It won't be removed until the day after surgery. I'm kinda paranoid about it. I have never had a urinary catheter before!!

What does it feel like? Is removing it painful?

I have had a catheter before.  It stays within due to a ballon inflated.  Once deflated irbid easily removed.

Can you feel it while it's in?

It was uncomfortable while it was in. The nurse that removed mine pulled it out like she was starting a lawn mower.

Ironically, it makes your motor NOT want to run.

I think the level of discomfort from catheters is different for men and women. We're built differently, you know.

Yes but there is no pain.  I was in the hospital 21 days a few years ago.  the only discomfort was when it had been in too long.

I had one when I had surgery and honestly I was grateful that I did not have to keep getting up to pee :)  I did not like the look of having one but mine was not painful at all and it did not hurt coming out and I did not even have any pain meds after surgery.

I didnt have one and I was so grateful. Just like you the idea of it didnt sit right with me. I did have my period at the time but i think the main reason they didnt use one is to encourage walking.

I am scheduled for surgery and I do believe I will be in the middle of my period when i have surgery. How was that were you uncomfortable was it easy to take care of that while trying to recoup from surgery.?
