Three Month Checkup
I had my three month checkup two weeks.
All the blood work looked good.
- Glucose is normal.
- Liver is normal.
- Vitamin levels good.
And I've lost over 70 lbs.
...but they did an Upper GI X-Ray and I have a sliding hiatal hernia that's causing acid reflux. They checked when I had surgery and I didn't have one then. And they checked right after surgery (another Upper GI) and I didn't have one then either. It's controllable with Nexium but I hate the idea of being on a medication forever...
I know it's not a big deal but it bugs the S@%& out of me.
I'm hoping it will correct itself when I lose more weight.
So, three and a half months down and I've lost 74 pounds with just under 30 to go. Right now, I weight three pounds more than when I started high school (RIGHT after the end of eighth grade they took our height and weight for football conditioning and I was six foot, 242.) And as long as I take my time and don't eat more than four ounces at I time, I tolerate everything well.
Is surgery an option to fix it?
Congrats on everything else! I can't wait to get down to my high school weight - 17 pounds to go. :D

I think your going to want to get the hiatal hernia fixed.
A proper VSG system needs to be shaped for positive food flow. (less reflux issues)
The sleeve is/can be a very high pressure system, as you have a very taught tube with one way valves at the top and bottom. The bottom being the pyloric valve and the top is a flapper valve and the esophageal sphincter.
"If" your hernia is showing up after surgery it is very possible you have been eating to much, to full or discomfort and creating pressure causing the hernia. Not saying that is it, but certainly a possibility.
Aggressive treatment of a hiatal hernia is pretty key in the system as you want the path of food to go from smaller to bigger..... think reverse funnel won't back up, but a right side up funnel can back up.....
Talk it out with your surgeon about fixing your hernia or not.
Hope this helps.

My surgery was done in Mexico. I talked to them and they didn't seem to be overly concerned. I talked to my regular doctor here who is doing the followup. He didn't make too much of a deal about it either.
I have eaten too much a few times or a little too fast and caused discomfort. But it's not something that happens on a regular basis.
I should be at my goal weight for my six month checkup. I plan on asking for another Upper GI then. If it hasn't worked itself out by then... maybe surgery.
I'd rather not though. I had to self pay because my insurance won't cover any type of bariatric surgery. I'm sure if I go to them they'll say it's a result of the surgery and not cover it.
