I have had this problem for the past couple of months, first it was once.. Than once every few days, and now it happens every day at different times, I've gone in for an ultrasound to see if it is indeed the gallbladder and am waiting for the results. The gallbladder has been a family issue also, so I will not be surprised if it does need to be taken out. My symptoms include a sharp stabbing pain that radiates to my back, and my right upper quadrant is very tender, so when the ultrasound was done it actually hurt when he would press the spot.

I came on here tonight to ask this same thing! I have had pain in the upper right side of my abdomen a few times. (5 mos post op) It was more of an ache than a sharp pain but definitely something going on. It started right after I ate dinner. I was trying to remember if it was the appendix or gallbladder that's higher up... Well, this stinks. But gallbladder issues are a family thing for me so suppose it'll probably happen sooner or later.
