Having problems getting all my protein. Protein Shots????
So I am 23 days post op and am having problems getting all my protein in by the end of the day. I can only eat about 3 to 4 tablespoons of food or thick soup at a sitting before it is to much and kind of sits there for a hour or more. I don't have any problems drinking fluids they go do easy and am able to drink 3 to 6 oz at a time with no problem hot, cold it does not matter. One of the problems is I am only getting about 300 to 400 cals a day as well.
What do you all think about those liquid protein shots? two a day will give me 80 grams protein a day.
I never tried the liquid protein shots.
Have you tried eating Greek yogurt? It has plenty of protein and usually goes down well. I was adding Isopure Zero Carb protein powder to my yogurt at your stage to meet my protein requirements. It made the process much easier.

Why not have actual protein drinks? Many people here recommended premier protein. I think it has 190 cals and 30g of protein. I used to LOVE protein drinks and sugar free powders before surgery. Now I hate it. I can't stand the taste of anything liquid sweet. Well long story short, if your taste buds tolerate it drink some shakes. Or even try making your own. Good luck.
I believe Premier Protein is 160 calories and 30 grams of protein. I drank at least two of these per day during my liquid phase. I still drink one everyday for breakfast.

We don't the protein shakes after surgery because we like the taste But it's very important to the healing process and weight loss to get that protein in. You'll never get enough from soups and broths, unless you drink Unjury's chicken.
I found many recipes to doctor up the flavor of my shakes to make them tolerable. The best suggestion I found was to add a tablespoon of sugar free Jello pudding (loved cheesecake, banana cream and pistachio the most), blend it with ice and your protein shake. Some people found that if they drink the protein shakes out of a container with a lid, they avoid the smell that makes you wince.
I bought this book from Bariatric Foodie before surgery, so I had many ideas for options for shakes. My doctor's office recommends drinking one protein shake during the weight loss phase (after you pass through liquids and purees) so I suggest you try a few different ways to drink them. Many people swear by Syntax Nectar. I've never tried them, but they are highly rated.

Most of those protein shots are made with collagen protein, which isn't absorbed well. I wouldn't go near them. Stick with high quality whey protein isolate.
