I measure everything. I've made the mistake of not just eyeballing and I either got very uncomfortable or got the goalies and had to puke. I purchased a small pocket scale that I keep in my purse for when we eat out. I'm a little over 6 months outranks still can only eat 2-2.5 ounces at s time

My DH is almost 3 years out, and I am just over 2 years out, we still weigh and/or measure our food. We also use small dishes to help with the brain thing. If you have a small amount of food on a large plate, your brain will play tricks on you.

I have not weighed anything.  I am 5 weeks out now, and have been eating semi solid "Slip and Slide" foods since day 4.  My doctors office told me not to count calories, or weigh anything.  They want me to lead a normal life.  They said I will not be able to over eat, so not to worry about it.  I do however record what I eat every day in MyFitness Pal.

You will definitely be able to overeat if you're only eating slider foods. And living a "normal" life is what gets people to obesity these days.

I am not sure what a "Slider" food is, but according to my doctors office, I was able to eat food that would slip or slide through a funnel, like scrambled eggs, applesauce, Greek yogurt ect.  I did not have to do liquid only, and there was no "Pureed" phase.  I have been eating small portions of solid food since the start of week 3, and I am certainly not able to overeat.  I am not hungry anyway, so why overeat?

I think that the surgeon that I used is different from most of the others, in both his surgical method, and in the way the post operative period is handled.  I fully expected a calorie counting, food weighing life, but when they did not mention it, and the nutritionist didn't mention it, I asked when they would tell us how many calories to eat.  I was then told not to concern myself with calories or food weight.  They said to trust the surgery and eat healthy foods, and the rest would take care of itself.

I thought that maybe this was just for me, since I am a lightweight, but no.  They told the same thing to everyone who was in my group, no matter how big they were.  They were as confused about it as I was, since they read the same things on the internet that I did.  Of course we all thought we would have pain, nausea, tiredness, and the inability to get fluids in like we read about, but that didn't happen either.  We were all up and seeing the sights the following day.  When we met up again at the post op 3 days later, all were doing great, and hadn't taken a single pain pill.  We said our goodbye's and headed home.

Slider foods are what you're eating - foods that slide through your stomach.  You can always eat more of those than you will be able to eat once you're eating solid foods.  Which means that you can eat all the yogurt you want and still be obese - your stomach will not magically stop you from overeating.  Even once you're eating solid/dense foods, you can too much and cause your stomach to stretch over time.

This is why it's important to weigh and measure things.  It seems unfathomable to me that a surgeon would tell his patients that it's unnecessary.  That lack of awareness is what got most of us to obesity in the first place.  (Right now your stomach is healing, but things change once you're healed up.)
