feeling lost...
I started my normal food diet yesterday and was so looking forward to it...but now im confused on how much and what I should be eating...everything was so spelled out during the 1st 5-6 weeks..i've been eating ham and chees roll ups, cheese sticks, natural pb, Boost high protein drinks...any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
You should have an information packet with this information? For me, I could pretty much eat anything I wanted once I reached my forever diet. My plan specifies three meals a day of 4-8 ounces each and 60-80 grams of protein a day. So that's what I do.
I weigh my meals to be 4 ounces each, eat protein first and feel happy if I can take a few bites of veggies at the end. It's been working out really well and I have a very varied diet!

thanks Gwenmo...I looked for some detailed info in my packet...I really didn't find any more detailed info then what you just said...I guess everything was just so laid out at first,now that I have to make decisions on my own I'm kinda freaking out...do you do 3 meals a day? Plus snacks? Or no snacks?
My plan is very clear that there should be no snacks, but other people's plans include snacks. I would call your surgeon and ask for clarification on that.
I, personally, do three meals a day with no snacks. Well, I try to. Sometimes I get munchy and have a snack.

The packet you were given should have a section on a normal food diet. If not, I suggest calling your surgeon's office and see if you can get one mailed to you or if you can talk to your NUT. When I first started normal foods my diet didn't change much from soft foods since protein is generally soft anyway. I'm slowly starting to incorporate more veggies but right now the protein fills me up so I don't have room.
My plan calls for me to eat 5-6 times a day. I normally have three 2-3 oz meals and 2-3 small snacks like greek yogurt or string cheese. My meals are usually chicken, beef chilli (heavy on the beef and lite on the beans), ham and cheese rollup, beef tips & gravy, eggs, tuna, etc. My meals tend to be very repetitive because I have found a system that works and guarantees that I get in my 70-80 grams of protein. If I am having trouble one day getting in food due to extra restriction or just not feeling well then I'll have a protein shake as a meal replacement.
As mentioned though, call your surgeon if you're truly puzzled.
There's a daily thread on the VSG forum called "What Are You Eating Today?" Read it for ideas. Some people are on maintenance, so take that into account.
You can start introducing new proteins into your diet (fish, chicken, beef, pork, eggs) and see how well they work with your new sleeve. Small bites of non-starchy vegetables that are well cooked, not raw. And you can always continue with the ham and cheese roll ups. Greek yogurt is also a great go-to for protein.
My goals are 80 grams of protein per day, between 30-40 grams of carbs and at least 80 ounces of fluids. I track everything on My Fitness Pal which is great to calculate my daily goals. Good luck to you
