Yes..... I was self pay, it wasn't family money, out of my own pocket.

I think the pressure is a good thing.

It would be interesting to see if there is a statistic if self payers do better, I'm gonna ask some surgeons.

what i meant by family money is my husband and my money...out of our own pockets...just seems like the pressure is overwhelming sometimes...

Not sure if you call it pressure, but, I have to succeed at this. If I don't, I will have thrown away $12.000 that we will be paying on for a few years. When I look at desserts, I don't see something I miss, I see $ signs

I wasn't a self pay but I feel pressure to lose weight as well because me and my husband pay $600 a month of BCBS of Illinois to cover him, myself, and our son. We both have $80,000 in student loan debt so $600 a month can be hard some times. But when i start feeling pressure I remember why i am doing this.

I know exactly what you mean. I can't imagine how I will feel if this doesn't work after investing all that money. Like you said, its not just my money its my family's money and I have two kids in college!  One thing I have often wondered is if there is any difference in success rate between insurance paid and self paid surgeries?  That would be an interesting statistic.

I too am a self pay, I try to use it is motivation to do better. I would also like to hear if Frisco finds any surgeons thinking self-pays may lose more than insurance pays. Regardless, though, I hope we all do well but maybe we have a slight psychological  "edge" since it was our own money! I like the idea above as seeing some foods as dollar signs; NICE!!

I can only speak for myself, but I do not feel any pressure at all.  I just know that I am going to succeede, so there is no worries.  I only wish the weight would come off faster.

You will do great.

I know what you mean. I went in debt big time for this. So failure is not an option.

My father paid for my surgery and is now going to be paying off for a whole year from his salaries. I felt so guilty initially but he says seeing me on my goal weight and maintaining it would be his pay-off. My biggest concern is not being able to maintain since I know I will be able to lose as I can't eat much and exercise pretty good.
